Professor Dr. Markus Broström

Biography

Markus Broström is a Professor at Umeå University specializing in energy technology and thermal process chemistry. His research emphasizes thermochemical energy conversion and industrial high-temperature processes, aimed at providing new knowledge that benefits both society and industry. His work seeks to increase the utilization of new fuels and materials while improving industrial processes to minimize costly operational issues and reduce harmful emissions. He leads projects focused on inorganic high-temperature chemistry with practical industrial applications. Broström’s ongoing research includes the sustainable use of low-grade residual streams in energy conversion processes, enhancing production capacity and sustainability in cement and lime production, and promoting circular economy initiatives. He collaborates within the framework of the Center for Sustainable Production of Cement and Quicklime, engaging over 30 researchers to contribute complementary expertise to various projects.
