Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Markus Eszlinger. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Markus Eszlinger joined the Department of Oncology in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary as a Research Manager in 2016 and was appointed Research Associate Professor in 2017. He spent six years as Principal Investigator at the molecular laboratory of the Division of Endocrinology at the University of Leipzig, Germany. His research focused on mutation-based molecular diagnosis of indeterminate thyroid cytology results and microRNA signatures in thyroid tumors for potential diagnostic applications. He has authored more than 80 original publications. His major research interests include the molecular etiology of thyroid nodules and the application of molecular markers to differentiate between benign and malignant thyroid tumors. His translational approach aims to enhance pre-surgical diagnosis of cytologically indeterminate thyroid nodules by analyzing panels of point mutations and gene fusions using targeted sequencing. He, along with Dr. Ralf Paschke, developed a diagnostic panel that has led to significant changes in clinical practice, including the implementation of the ThyroSPEC™ panel in Alberta, which has the potential to reduce unnecessary surgeries for thyroid nodules. Additionally, Eszlinger is involved in research analyzing mutation profiles in advanced cancers and their implications for targeted therapies.
