Dr. Markus Gehring

Biography

Markus Gehring is a Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Cambridge. He holds advanced degrees from Yale and Hamburg, including J.S.D., LL.M., and Dr. jur. Gehring's research interests include European Union Law, International Law, and Sustainable Development Law. He is a member of the Centre for European Legal Studies (CELS) and serves as a Fellow and Director of Studies in Law at Hughes Hall. Previously, he has held the position of a visiting professor at Yale Law School and has been involved in various international law faculties across the globe. Gehring has published extensively on EU law and international sustainable development, and serves as Lead Counsel at the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL). He also acts as an editor for the Cambridge Yearbook of European Legal Studies and co-edits a book series on the implementation of sustainable development treaties. Additionally, he practiced European international trade law at Cleary Gottlieb in Brussels and has worked as a tutor in Public International Law at University College, Oxford.
