Biography

Markus Ketola is a Senior Lecturer in Global and International Social Policy at the University of Edinburgh with a research focus on civil society studies, particularly the role of NGOs and communities in policymaking across various country contexts including Turkey, the UK, and Finland. He has authored significant works on civil society and Europeanisation published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2013 and jointly published with Ciaran Hughes on Neoliberalism in the Voluntary Community Sector by Policy Press in 2021. His current research interests overlap environmental policy, populism, and storytelling, with a new line of inquiry focused on forests and forest governance. Between 2015 and 2022, he served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Social Policy Association and held the position of Honorary Secretary from 2019 to 2022. Additionally, he is a co-editor of the Journal of International Comparative Social Policy.
