Biography

Markus Klammer is the Schaulager Professor for Art Theory at the Department of Art History, University of Basel, and a member of the management board of eikones - Center for Theory and History of the Image. He is responsible for the NOMIS Fellowship Program and is involved in the DFG network 'Other Knowledge' with a subproject on structures of exemplification in art theory and aesthetics. He studied philosophy, art history, and comparative literature in Vienna. From 2006 to 2008, he was a member of the graduate school 'Image and Knowledge' as part of the National Research Priority Program on Image Criticism eikones. He subsequently served as a Junior Fellow at the International Research Center for Cultural Studies in Vienna from 2008 to 2010 and later as a research associate in the Collaborative Research Center on 'Aesthetic Experience in the Context of the Boundaries of the Arts' at Free University Berlin. Klammer completed his doctorate at the University of Vienna in philosophy with a thesis on the relationship between material and representation in Freudian psychoanalysis. He has held several academic positions and has been involved in various research projects related to modern art and aesthetics.
