Biography

Markus Leitner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Operations Analytics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from Vienna University of Technology in 2010 and completed his habilitation in Operations Research at the University of Vienna in 2016. He previously held positions as a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at Vienna University of Technology and University of Vienna, as well as a visiting researcher at the Interuniversity Research Centre Enterprise Networks, Logistics Transportation (CIRRELT) in Montreal, Canada. His research interests focus on combinatorial optimization and operations research, specifically on exact and heuristic techniques applied to problems in network design, transportation, logistics, and social network analysis. He has published in numerous prestigious journals, including Mathematical Programming and Transportation Science. In teaching, he conducts courses in Mathematical Programming, Operations Research, and Decision Support, while also serving as the program director for the master's program in Transport & Supply Chain Management. He is actively involved in several academic editorial boards and committee organizations, contributing to the fields of logistics and network optimization.
