Dr. Markus Meissner

Biography

Professor Markus Meissner leads the Chair of Experimental Parasitology at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. His research focuses on protozoan parasites, exploring their unique evolutionary history and biochemical pathways. This work aims to understand the fundamental biological processes of eukaryotes, especially in their interactions with hosts. Meissner’s lab investigates gene regulation mechanisms and develops new strategies for addressing important pathogens, particularly in the context of public health and translational approaches for novel interventions. His influential research has contributed significantly to the understanding of the similarities and differences between protozoan parasites and their host organisms, providing insights into the evolutionary processes that shape life forms. Under his leadership, the Chair of Experimental Parasitology is committed to education, research, and diagnosis related to veterinary parasitic diseases, supporting both scientific inquiry and practical training for students.
