Markus Meissner is a Professor at the Chair of Experimental Parasitology at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. His research focuses on protozoan parasites, exploring their unique evolutionary history and the biochemical pathways and gene regulation mechanisms that differentiate them from other eukaryotes. The laboratory investigates the similarities and differences between protozoan parasites and their hosts to gain insights into fundamental biology and evolution. This work aims to develop novel intervention strategies against important pathogens. He has recently been involved in significant research activities, including the development of new anti-malarial drugs and receiving funding from the European Research Council to support his innovative research projects.
