Biography

Markus Perkmann is a Professor of Innovation & Entrepreneurship and Vice-Dean (Research & Faculty) at Imperial Business School. He is the academic director of the Imperial Enterprise Lab. His research focuses on science-based organizations and science-based entrepreneurship, particularly at the interface of academia and industry, emphasizing hybrid organizations that bridge the two worlds. He examines social valuation processes affecting individual and firm perceptions and decisions regarding product development. His studies address how individuals in large organizations choose to establish startups. He is open to PhD applications in organization theory, entrepreneurship, the sociology of science, and university-industry relationships. Perkmann has published broadly in top journals including Organization Science, Academy of Management Journal, and Research Policy. He co-founded the journal 'Innovation: Organization & Management' and has collaborated with major organizations such as CapGemini, GSK, and Rolls Royce. Prior to his role at Imperial, he led innovation projects at the startup Greychip. He obtained his PhD in Sociology from Lancaster University and joined Imperial in 2008.
