Biography

Marlene Spanger is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University, specializing in International Development Studies and History. Her research focuses on transnational labor migration, human trafficking, and the sale of sex, contributing to migration studies, gender studies, and labor studies. Spanger is the Principal Investigator for the research project 'Soil Wine Glass: Labor Mobility Regimes and Possibilities for Green Transition,' which investigates labor relations in the natural wine industry and its potential impact on the green transition. Additionally, she leads an exploratory research network on migration labor and the transformative effects of platform-mediated work. Over the past decade, she has been a visiting researcher at various prestigious universities including the University of Oslo, Brown University, Leipzig University, and Uppsala University. She teaches in the Master's program in International Relations and coordinates the elective 'Global Gender Studies.'
