Marli Huijer is a full professor of public philosophy at Erasmus School of Philosophy. She studied Philosophy of Medicine at the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit. Huijer obtained her doctorate in Philosophy in 1996 with a dissertation on Michel Foucault’s aesthetics of existence related to AIDS. From 2015 to 2017, she held the position of Thinker Laureate of the Netherlands. Her research interests are centered on the public role of philosophy, the order of time in human affairs, the interplay between philosophy and science and technology, as well as gender in biomedical sciences. Huijer's areas of PhD supervision include public philosophy, the philosophy of culture, political philosophy influenced by critical thinkers such as Foucault, Arendt, and Habermas, science and technology studies particularly in biomedical contexts, and feminist studies.
