Marnie Howlett is a Departmental Lecturer in Russian and East European Politics at the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Oxford. With a focus on the nexus of geopolitics, cartography, borders, and nationalism in the context of the former Soviet Union, particularly Ukraine, Marnie has conducted extensive fieldwork in the region. Marnie’s main research interests include the utilization of digital, visual, and spatial methods in political research. She holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, as well as a Master’s degree in Political Science and a Bachelor’s degree (High Honours) in International Studies from the University of Saskatchewan.
