Biography

Marston Conder is a Distinguished Professor at the University of Auckland, specializing in Mathematics. He was born and raised in the Waikato region of New Zealand. After completing his early education at Hinuera Primary and Matamata College, he pursued higher education at the University of Waikato, obtaining a DPhil from the University of Oxford in 1980. His research interests include minimal generating pairs of permutation groups, group theory applications, and symmetry. He has held several academic positions including postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Otago and Universität Tübingen, and has been with the University of Auckland since 1983, being promoted to full Professor in 1993 and Distinguished Professor in 2012. He has received numerous awards, including the NZ Mathematical Society Research Award and the Hector Medal from the Royal Society of New Zealand. Conder has served in leadership roles such as the Chair of the Budget Committee at the University of Auckland and as the President of the New Zealand Mathematical Society. He is also known for his involvement with the NZ Institute of Mathematics & Applications and has received various fellowships and honors throughout his career.
