Biography

Marta de Ruijter-Villani is an associate professor at the Department of Clinical Sciences of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University and a researcher at the University Medical Center Utrecht in the division of Woman and Baby. As a clinical embryologist, she heads the Equine ICSI lab and is the Principal Investigator theme leader of a research group focused on Fertility and Reproduction. Her research aims to understand the origins of chromosomal instability in oocytes and embryos, particularly in aged females, identifying defects in the interface of chromosomes and the cytoskeletal machinery that lead to aneuploidy. She also investigates the mechanisms that induce chromosome instability in pre-implantation embryos, studying the consequences of chromosomal instability in early development. Dr. de Ruijter-Villani is currently seeking highly motivated undergraduate students to start research projects on chromosome segregation errors in oocytes and embryos. She is an EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Equine Reproduction, responsible for training, examination, and accreditation of veterinary specialists across Europe, and is dedicated to contributing to high-quality patient care within her field.
