Dr. Marta Hanson

Biography

Marta Hanson has a rich academic background as an Associate Professor in the History of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, where she focused on the intersections of Chinese medicine and public health. She has published extensively on the history of medicine in China, particularly during the late imperial period, and has contributed significantly to studies related to epidemics and disease mapping in East Asia. Her research interests encompass the history of Chinese science and medicine, disease maps, the cultural memory of healers, and the social history of late imperial China. A former Assistant Professor at the University of California, San Diego, Hanson has held various editorial positions, including Senior Co-editor of Asian Medicine: Journal of the International Association for the Study of Traditional Asian Medicine. She is also affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science and has been involved in multiple international research projects, enhancing our understanding of cross-cultural medical histories.
