Dr. Marta Hatzell

Biography

Marta Hatzell is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, with a joint appointment in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. She began her role at Georgia Tech in August 2015 after completing her post-doctoral research in the Department of Material Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign, where she worked with the Braun Research Group on colloid science and electrochemistry. She earned her Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University, focusing on environmental technology, energy generation, and water treatment. Hatzell is actively involved in various professional societies, including the American Chemical Society and the Electrochemical Society, and has received several accolades, including the NSF Early CAREER award in 2019 for her work on distributed solar-fertilizers. Her current research is centered on exploring sustainable catalysis and separations, with applications in solar energy conversion and desalination. She was awarded the 2020 Sloan Research Fellowship in Chemistry.
