Dr. Marta Mccarthy

Biography

Marta McCarthy is an Associate Professor at the University of Guelph in the School of Fine Art and Music, specializing in choral conducting and musicianship. She has over ten years of experience directing choirs, including a five-year tenure with the University of Waterloo Choir. McCarthy has taught choral techniques at Wilfrid Laurier University and has also been associated with the University of Toronto. She holds a Master of Music degree from Westminster Choir College of Princeton and has achieved several qualifications from the Royal Conservatory of Music and the University of Toronto. Notable accomplishments include the Elmer Iseler Conducting Fellowship in 1999, the Ontario Volunteer Service Award, and recognition as a Woman of Distinction in Arts & Culture in Guelph. McCarthy currently conducts the University of Guelph Symphonic Choir, Chamber Singers, and Women's Chamber Choir, with the latter being finalists in the 2006 CBC National Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs.
