Martha Constantine-Paton is a Professor Emerita at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Department of Biology. Her research has primarily focused on the use of classical and modern genetic tools in mice to study the contributions of specific brain regions to normal behavior. Her lab was known for working with the Flailer mutant mouse model, which carries a brain region-specific dominant negative mutation in the actin motor protein MyosinVa, leading to a series of abnormal behaviors. She designed CRISPR-Cas9 techniques to remove the dominant negative mutation and dissect the contributions of brain regions to normal behavior. Constantine-Paton is no longer accepting students and has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2015.
