Dr. Martha Curley

Biography

Martha A.Q. Curley is the Ruth M. Colket Endowed Chair in Pediatric Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania and a professor of nursing. She is recognized as a leading clinical researcher in nurse-implemented therapies that have significantly transformed clinical management for children and families in acute critical care settings. Dr. Curley's work includes multisite clinical trials funded by multiple branches of the National Institutes of Health, where she serves as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator for several impactful studies. Her research focuses primarily on nurse-led complex therapies, including pain and sedation management for critically ill children and the establishment of family-centered care models. Dr. Curley is also a founding member of the Pediatric Acute Lung Injury Sepsis Investigator Network and a nurse standing member of the NHLBI Clinical Trials Review Committee. She has contributed to significant publications that drive the nursing practice in pediatric critical care and has been recognized with several awards, including the Denis Devictor Award from the European Society of Pediatric Neonatal Intensive Care. Dr. Curley is dedicated to mentoring doctoral and graduate students, enhancing interprofessional collaborations across disciplines to improve outcomes in pediatric healthcare.
