Dr. Martha Keels

Biography

Martha Ann Keels is a Medical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at Duke University, with an adjunct appointment in the Department of Pediatrics. Her professional focus includes the study of acid reflux, especially gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and dietary acids, as well as issues related to dentition, dental trauma, neonatal teeth, and caries risk assessment. Dr. Keels has been involved in several significant grants, such as the RISK Renewal project aimed at predicting caries risk in underserved toddlers in primary healthcare settings. She has had a longstanding academic career, having served as an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she completed her Ph.D. and D.D.S. degrees. Her past appointments include associate consulting professor and various associate and assistant professor roles in pediatrics and surgery. Dr. Keels' expertise contributes significantly to pediatric dentistry and oral health research.
