Dr. Martha White

Biography

Martha White is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta. Her research encompasses various areas within Machine Learning, with a particular focus on optimization approaches in non-linear modeling, deep learning neural networks, and generative models. Her academic work aims to enhance methods for assessing generalization through techniques such as cross-validation and bootstrapping. In addition to her teaching role, she has contributed to the development of advanced methods in handling data, including non-independent and identically distributed (non-iid) data and missing data issues. Professor White teaches courses such as CMPUT 467, which is part of a two-course sequence that provides a deep dive into Machine Learning topics relevant to both undergraduates and graduate students. She is committed to advancing her field and educating the next generation of computer scientists in practical applications of machine learning techniques.
