Biography

Martijn J. van den Assem is an Associate Professor in the Finance Group at the Department of Business Economics, Erasmus School of Economics (ESE). His research interests are broad, with a particular focus on financial behavioral economics. His work explores decision making under risk, initial public equity offerings, bargaining, and social behavior, with an emphasis on empirical studies based on non-standard data. He has served as a referee for high-quality scholarly journals and is currently co-editing a special issue on empirical behavioral finance for the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization. His article based on the TV game show 'Deal or No Deal' has been published in the esteemed American Economic Review and ranks among the most downloaded articles in the field of social sciences. He has also published works in Experimental Economics and Management Science. Additionally, van den Assem is actively involved in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs at ESE, serving as the Bachelor thesis coordinator and internship coordinator, and has been a member of ESE's Exam Committee. He received the Top Lecturer Award from ESE in 2011.
