Professor Dr. Martim Brandão

Biography

Martim Brandão is a Lecturer in Robotics and Autonomous Systems at King's College London. His research focuses on the responsible development of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI). He systematically investigates the risks and social impacts associated with robotics and AI, critically examines current approaches to R&D in the field, and develops new algorithms that promote socially responsible and human-compatible technologies. Martim leads the Responsible Robotics and AI (RRAI) lab at King's College London and serves as Co-Director of the Centre for Doctoral Training in Safe and Trusted AI. He has held postdoctoral positions at King's College London (2019-2021) and the Oxford Robotics Institute, University of Oxford (2017-2019), as well as academic experience at Takanishi Laboratory, Waseda University, Tokyo (2016-2017). He holds a PhD in Engineering from Waseda University, Japan. His research interests include Responsible AI, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Planning, Computer Vision, Fairness, Explainability, and Ethics.
