Biography

Martin Anderson graduated with a degree in Sociology from the University of Glasgow in 2015 and completed an MSc in Alcohol and Drug Studies in 2016. He was awarded a 1+3 year MRC studentship, finishing his Master of Public Health in 2018 and earning his PhD in Social and Public Health Sciences in 2023. His research has focused on the concept of 'recovery' within the context of substance use, with an emphasis on interventions that promote abstinent recovery and the role of lived experience in recovery community organizations and residential rehabilitation settings. His PhD research evaluated a residential rehabilitation project providing vocational training and peer support. Prior to his current role as Research Associate at the School of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow, he worked as a Research Officer at the Scottish Drugs Forum, where he concentrated on projects related to Take-Home Naloxone in Scotland. His current work involves evaluating the impact of the UK’s Sanctioned Safer Drug Consumption Facility (ENACT) study, investigating service implementation and user experiences. In addition, he has contributed to various public health initiatives and supervised numerous postgraduate students. Martin has also developed course materials for the online Master of Public Health program and has delivered guest lectures on substance use topics across multiple universities.
