Biography

Martin Carlisle is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University. He serves as the Associate Department Head, contributing extensively to academia and research in computer security, programming languages, and computer science education. Martin holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Princeton University, obtained in 1996, and a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Delaware, which he completed in 1991. His industry experience includes directing the United States Air Force Academy Center for Cyberspace Research. Martin has received numerous awards for his teaching excellence, including the Provost Academic Professional Track Faculty Teaching Excellence Award in 2025 and the Engineering Teaching Excellence Award in 2024. He was also recognized with the Undergraduate Faculty Teaching Excellence Award at Texas A&M Computer Science Engineering in 2023. His work has been honored with multiple distinguished awards, such as the Meritorious Civilian Service Award from the United States Air Force in 2016 and the Distinguished Educator Award from the Association Computing Machinery in 2009. Martin is committed to advancing the field of computer science through his contributions to teaching and research.
