Dr. Martin Cooke

Biography

Martin Cooke is a Professor jointly appointed in the Department of Sociology & Legal Studies and the School of Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo. As an accomplished demographer and sociologist, his research focuses on life course dynamics, population change, and social policy. His work encompasses various aspects of family and household demography, including fertility, household formation, dissolution, population aging, and migration. He also analyzes the implications of social assistance policies and pension systems. A significant emphasis of his research is on Canadian demographics, though he occasionally draws comparisons with other countries. Additionally, Professor Cooke is involved in graduate supervision and is currently accepting graduate honours students for supervision opportunities. His teaching interests align with demographic changes and social determinants of health, particularly within the context of an aging population. His academic background includes a BA Honours from the University of Winnipeg and both an MA and PhD in Sociology from the University of Western Ontario.
