Dr. Martin Cooke

Biography

Martin Cooke is a professor at the University of Waterloo, jointly appointed in the Department of Sociology and Legal Studies and the School of Public Health and Health Systems. He has a significant background as a demographer and sociologist with research interests centering on life course studies, population change, and social policy. His work encompasses various aspects of family and household demography, including fertility, demographic processes related to household formation and dissolution, and the implications of population aging and migration. Cooke's focus is primarily on Canadian demography and relevant policies, while also making occasional comparisons to other countries. In addition to his research, he takes on an administrative role as the Assistant Vice-President, Academic – Leadership Strategic Initiatives, and is currently accepting graduate honours students for supervision. His teaching interests include the social determinants of health, demographic change, and sociology of aging.
