Biography

Martin Crowley studied French and German at the University of Oxford, where he pursued a Master's in Critical Theory. He has worked for the French publisher Larousse as a bilingual dictionary editor and later returned to Oxford to complete his DPhil in French. An author and filmmaker, he has notably engaged with the works of Marguerite Duras. Prior to his current position, he spent four years as a Lecturer in French Studies at the University of Manchester and joined the University of Cambridge in 2000. In addition to his teaching, he has served as a Visiting Research Scholar in the Department of Comparative Literature at New York University and is the general editor of the journal 'French Studies'. He is open to applications from potential MPhil and PhD students focusing on modern and contemporary thought and culture in the French-speaking world.
