Martin Darvas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Washington. His research primarily focuses on neuroscience, particularly neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Dr. Darvas aims to identify critical brain circuits and signaling pathways to uncover new therapeutic targets that could improve treatments for these diseases. His work includes developing quantitative molecular neuropathology methods to enhance understanding of pathological changes in clinical samples. His current research encompasses understanding the structural and molecular bases of learning and memory with an emphasis on cognitive impairment in neurodegenerative diseases, examining mouse brains in aging Alzheimer’s disease models, and developing multiplexed Luminex assays for Alzheimer’s disease-related pathological changes in formalin-fixed brain autopsy tissue. Dr. Darvas is also dedicated to teaching and has diverse teaching commitments at the University of Washington, including courses in neurobiology and molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration.
