Biography

Martin Everett is a distinguished scholar in the field of mathematical analytical sociology, known for his methodological focus on social networks. He began his academic journey with a BSc and MSc in mathematics from Loughborough University and Oxford University, respectively, later completing a DPhil that was jointly awarded in mathematics and sociology. Since joining the University of Manchester in 2009, Everett has significantly contributed to the discipline by co-founding the Mitchell Centre for Social Network Analysis. His work primarily entails the development of non-statistical descriptive methods for centrality, positional analysis techniques, and community detection within networks. An influential figure in the academic community, he has served as the past president of the International Network for Social Network Analysis (INSNA) and received the prestigious Simmel award. He is an elected academician of the Academy of Social Sciences and a co-author of UCINET, a widely used software package for analyzing social network data. His research continues to impact both public and private sectors by exploring the intricacies of social network analysis and its applications in addressing complex societal issues, such as those aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
