Dr. Martin Fernandez

Biography

Martin Ignacio Fernandez is a designer, educator, and technologist whose work comprises code, images, and narratives that examine the intersection of digital culture and the built environment. He is currently a Visiting Professor in Architecture at the Stuart Weitzman School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches studio courses for the Master of Science in Architecture's Advanced Architecture Design Program. His work has been exhibited in notable venues including the Irish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2018, the Druker Design Gallery at Harvard GSD, and the Fordham University Center Gallery in New York. Fernandez's publications are featured in Landscape Architecture Magazine, Harvard GSD's Platform, and Nexus Network Journal. He is also an Architectural Designer and Creative Technologist at Measures, where he develops geometrical configurators aimed at promoting circularity within the construction industry, and engages in museum exhibitions that integrate synthetic biology and generative artificial intelligence. His completed exhibitions span prestigious locations such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Barbican Centre in London. Previously, he has contributed to prominent projects with firms such as Arquitectonica and Gensler, and he has also been involved in projects for the Nvidia Headquarters and the Shanghai Tower. Fernandez holds a Bachelor of Design from the University of Florida and a Master of Architecture I from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design.
