Martin Grenon is currently the Vice-Dean of Research at the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He has 20 years of experience in mining engineering and rock mechanics. His research focuses on the characterization of rock mass for mining applications. He has worked on the stability of slopes in open-pit mines during design, operation, and closure stages; the impact of geological and geotechnical properties of rock mass on seismic responses associated with mining activities in deep underground mines; and the effect of permafrost conditions on the stability of underground mining excavations. Grenon has been an active member of the Rock Mechanics Society of the Canadian Institute of Mining (CIM), serving as president from 2015 to 2017. He has also held the position of president of the Canadian Rock Mechanics Association (CARMA) from 2015 to 2017. He has been the editor of the CIM Journal since 2014 and has served as an associate editor for the Canadian Geotechnical Journal since 2017. Additionally, he is currently the North American Vice-President for the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM).
