Biography

Martin Harling is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg, specializing in General Didactics and Pedagogic Work. His research primarily focuses on the political dimensions of pedagogy and education, especially how pedagogical practices shape and control populations within school contexts. He defended his dissertation, "Choosing Subjects: A Study on Upper Secondary School Choice, School Fairs, and the Battle for the Future" at Linköping University in spring 2017. This research analyzes market logics in education, particularly concerning how school fairs impact student choice and inequality. From 2019 to 2021, he led an international research network funded by FORTE, focused on the education and integration of unaccompanied young people. Currently, he is initiating a research project on school social teams and their effects on school absenteeism. Additionally, he teaches courses in pedagogy and special education, focusing on the marketization of education and poststructuralist theories.
