Biography

Martin Houde is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Western University, specializing in astrophysical processes with a focus on quantum coherence, superradiance phenomena, and fast radio bursts. His research interests include understanding basic physical processes that play a role in the interstellar medium and astrophysical plasmas. Over recent years, he has led a research group focused on novel line research applied to astrophysics, particularly the strong radiation flares observed in maser-hosting regions of fast radio bursts (FRBs). His prior work included studies of magnetic fields and turbulence in star-forming regions, which helped develop new methods and physical models that significantly advanced the field, including the discovery of anisotropic resonant scattering in molecular lines. He has authored several papers, contributing to journals such as the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society and New Journal Physics.
