Dr. Martin Junginger

Biography

Martin Junginger is a Full Professor at Utrecht University, holding the Bio-Based Economy chair within the Energy & Resources group at the Copernicus Institute. With a background in chemistry and environmental science, he has been associated with the Energy & Resources department since 2001. He completed his PhD in 2005, primarily focusing on Sustainable International Bioenergy Trade and has since engaged in extensive research regarding the technological development and cost reductions associated with renewable energy technologies. He has led significant international efforts through the IEA Bioenergy Task 40, addressing biomass sustainability assurance frameworks and bioenergy markets. His work includes overseeing various EU-funded projects and he has been actively involved in teaching, supervision of MSc students, and publication of over 130 peer-reviewed scientific articles, achieving an H-index of 49. Junginger has also edited several influential books on energy technologies and bioenergy trade, collaborating with experts across multiple countries. He is committed to advancing the academic field through research and collaborations across Europe and beyond.
