Biography

Martin Lavery is a Full Professor and leader of the Structured Photonics Research Group at the University of Glasgow. He has a dynamic research group with a track record of investigating fundamental developments in Physics while successfully applying them to industry-inspired engineering challenges. Since joining the School of Engineering in September 2014, he has attracted over £5 million in research funding as the Principal Investigator for the H2020 Future Emerging Technologies consortium project named SuperPixels. Lavery is a recognized leader in the academic community, having been awarded the 2013 Scopus Young Scientist of the Year in Physical Sciences. In 2018, he received the Mobile World Scholar Gold Medal for his accomplishments in high-dimensional optical communications, and in 2019, he was awarded the Royal Academy of Edinburgh's Sir Thomas Makdougall Brisbane Medal for his contributions to the field of optics. He has led a team of world-leading researchers in developing a road map for deploying high-speed network provision in developing countries. Lavery's research interests include structured light, optical communications, and high-dimensional communication systems.
