His published articles examine scores for landmark sound films, including studies on 'Casablanca' and great comedies directed by Preston Sturges. Currently, he is working on a book about the continued life of silent cinema, focusing on the diverse ways classic silents were accompanied and scored by various musicians, including himself. Martin is deeply passionate about teaching various subjects within the Music Theater Arts Section, including introductory surveys of Western music and advanced classes in film music and stage musicals.
