Dr. Martin Mueller

Biography

Martin Mueller is a professor in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta. He earned his Dipl.-Ing. in Technical Mathematics from Graz University of Technology in Austria in 1989 and completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at ETH Zurich in Switzerland in 1995. With over thirty years of experience, his research primarily focuses on artificial intelligence, particularly in areas such as heuristic search and game tree search. He has developed numerous algorithms and systems that advance the performance of heuristic search techniques. A notable achievement from his research group includes the development of Fuego, an open-source program that won multiple international competitions in computer Go. His work spans across various high-level goals, including the development of theoretical and practical approaches to enhance search techniques. Mueller has contributed significantly to the fields of computer games, planning, and artificial intelligence, with numerous publications in top-tier venues and conferences.
