Dr. Martin Myers received his undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology (summa cum laude) from Princeton University in 1988 and earned his M.D. and Ph.D. in Cell Biology from Harvard Medical School in 1997. He joined the faculty of the Joslin Diabetes Center at Harvard Medical School that same year to focus on the mechanisms of leptin receptor signaling and its link to the regulation of mammalian physiology. In 2004, he moved to the University of Michigan as a Michigan Biomedical Sciences Scholar and joined the faculty of Internal Medicine and Molecular and Integrative Physiology. Currently, Dr. Myers serves as the Director of the Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute within the Michigan Diabetes Research Center. His research is centered on the central nervous system's role in regulating blood glucose levels and body weight, examining how various pathways contribute to insulin resistance and diabetes. He has received numerous accolades, including the Michigan Biomedical Sciences Scholar Award (2004), election to the American Society for Clinical Investigation (2005), and the American Diabetes Association’s Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award (2010).
