Martin joined the Faculty of Law in 2013, bringing years of public service experience in environmental and natural resources law and policy. From 2007 to 2013, he served as counsel with the federal Department of Justice, specifically in the legal services unit of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. During this time, he also spent a significant period on secondment to the Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Division at Environment Canada. Martin holds a B.Sc. (Biology) and an LL.B. from the University of Saskatchewan, and an LL.M. specializing in environmental law from the University of California at Berkeley. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Resource Management at the University of British Columbia’s Institute for Resources, Environment, and Sustainability. In law school, Martin clerked for Hon. His teaching and research interests focus primarily on environmental law, natural resources, and water law policy, with ongoing development in constitutional, administrative, tort, and regulatory law areas. Martin's scholarly work has been published in several reputable journals including the University of British Columbia Law Review and the Georgetown Environmental Law Review. He has also acted as a witness in regulatory hearings and has advised on many high-profile committees.
