Dr. Martin Richard

Biography

Martin Richard is an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, a Master's degree, and a PhD in Civil Engineering from Laval University. He is a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with expertise in numerical modelling and data science, particularly in machine learning applications. His research focuses on ice engineering and cold regions research, emphasizing water resources and river hydraulics, as well as risk analysis using probabilistic methods. Martin has contributed to numerous projects involving machine learning techniques for environmental forecasting, specifically in predicting ice and water resources. He is also experienced in high-performance computing utilizing GPUs and has developed methods for forecasting heat exchanges in ice, rivers, oceans, and the atmosphere, including the processes related to river ice.
