Biography

Martin Schwartz is a Professor of Medicine at Yale University, specializing in Cardiology and Biomedical Engineering. His research focuses on how cells coordinate their form and functionality to develop mechanically stable, dimensional tissues, which is critical for understanding normal development and identifying processes involved in diseases such as cancer and heart disease. The lab studies integrin signaling and mechanotransduction, investigating how cells react to extracellular matrices and mechanical forces. As part of this work, Dr. Schwartz employs approaches from cell biology, biophysics, and bioengineering, particularly in models related to the vascular system and atherosclerosis.
