Biography

Martin Paul Smith is an Associate Professor of Practice in the Education Program at Duke University. He teaches courses on Race, Power, Identity, and Foundations of American Education. Smith also serves as the Director of Duke’s Secondary Teacher Preparation Program and as the Faculty Director of the DukeEngage Boston Summer Literacy Program. His research and teaching interests focus on the intersection of race, sport, and education, with a particular emphasis on the experiences of African American males. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, obtained in 2015.
