Dr. Martin Tolstrup

Biography

Martin Tolstrup is a Professor in the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University, where he has worked since 2007 in the field of infectious diseases. He has developed a world-class clinical translational medicine program focused on innovative anti-viral treatments and preventive concepts. Tolstrup has expertise in virology and immunology, employing advanced laboratory techniques to explore new cell-therapy and gene-therapy technologies aimed at translating these innovations into viable treatment options for patients affected by viral illnesses. He has international experience, having spent time in Melbourne, Australia, and San Francisco, which enhances his perspective on global health challenges. His research interests include the development of novel treatment modalities for acute and chronic viral infections, particularly in the areas of HIV, retroviruses, and the immune system. Tolstrup is also part of the founding group of the European HIV Cure network (EU2Cure) and collaborates extensively on HIV Cure research across Europe. In addition to his research endeavours, he teaches a vaccinology course for medical students and supervises multiple research projects at various academic levels, including bachelor and master's theses, as well as PhD students.
