Dr. Martin Ugander

Biography

Professor Martin Holke Olof Ugander is an Honorary Professor at St Vincent’s Clinical School, Faculty of Medicine, UNSW. He has been a Professor of Cardiac Imaging at the University of Sydney since 2019 and previously served as an Associate Professor at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. Professor Ugander completed his MD and PhD at Lund University, Sweden, in 2001 and 2006, respectively. He spent two years as a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) where he specialized in Cardiovascular MRI and CT. His training includes clinical specialties in Clinical Physiology at Karolinska University Hospital. Professor Ugander has established and leads the Karolinska Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance clinical translational research group and maintains his affiliation with Karolinska Institute. His research focuses on non-invasive cardiac imaging and particularly emphasizes diagnostic approaches for ischemic heart disease, myocarditis, heart failure, and basic cardiac pumping physiology. He has published extensively in the field, addressing topics such as diastolic dysfunction and coronary microvascular dysfunction in relation to heart failure.
