Dr. Martin Weides

Biography

Professor Martin Weides works at the James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow, specializing in Quantum Technologies. He earned his PhD from the University of Cologne in 2006 and has held postdoctoral positions at Research Centre Juelich (Germany), the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Colorado. Before joining the University of Glasgow in 2018, he held a joint position at the University of Mainz and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany. His research expertise encompasses experimental solid-state physics, interface material science, and electrical engineering. Professor Weides' main research interests include coherent nanoelectronics with a focus on quantum spintronics, hybrid qubit systems for quantum computing, and superconducting quantum circuits. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and has received grants from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the European Research Council. As Director of the James Watt Nanofabrication Centre and Associate Director of the Skills University of Glasgow Centre for Quantum Technology, he leads a research group dedicated to advancing quantum circuit technologies.
