Biography

Prof. Martin Zacharias focuses on the structure dynamics of biomolecules, employing computer simulation methods to study the movement of proteins and nucleic acids at atomic resolution to understand the forces generated. His major goal is to gain insights into the molecular mechanisms of association processes in biomolecules, aiming to make realistic predictions about biomolecular structure formation and association. His work also involves creating these predictions and studying the dynamics of biomolecular interactions. He completed his doctorate in 1991 at Freie Universität Berlin in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics and conducted postdoctoral research at both the University of Houston and the University of Colorado. Prof. Zacharias later completed his lecturer qualification at Humboldt University Berlin and headed a research group at the Leibniz Institute for Molecular Biotechnology in Jena. He accepted a professorship at Jacobs University Bremen before taking his current position as Chair of Biomolecular Dynamics at the Technical University of Munich in 2009.
