Martina Lessio is a Scientia Fellow at the School of Chemistry at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). Originally from Torino, Italy, she completed her bachelor's and master's degrees in Chemistry before moving to Princeton University in the United States, where she earned her PhD in Chemistry in 2017 under the mentorship of Professor Emily Carter. During her time at Princeton, Martina utilized computational chemistry to investigate catalysts for CO2 conversion. Following her PhD, Martina joined Columbia University as a Columbia Science Fellow, where she contributed to the teaching of the first-year undergraduate course "Frontiers of Science" and conducted research on novel functional materials in a group led by Professor David Reichman. After her experience in the United States, Martina relocated to Australia to continue her research and teaching career at the University of Sydney, where she was awarded a University of Sydney Fellowship to work on the computational modeling of metal-organic frameworks. In 2020, she joined UNSW's School of Chemistry, where she leads a research group focused on investigating molecular materials for sustainability applications using computational methods.
