Biography

Martine Verheul is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on Skill Acquisition and Motor Control within the Moray House School of Education and Sport. She has lectured on Motor Control since 2006 and is a member of the Human Performance Science Research Group. Her academic journey includes a Master's degree in Human Movement Sciences from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where she researched the dynamic characteristics of walking patterns in individuals with Parkinson's disease. Following this, she completed her PhD in Neuropsychology at the University of Groningen, studying bimanual coordination among right and left-handers, particularly relating to Parkinson's disease. Martine held a post-doctoral fellowship at the Institute of Biophysical Clinical Research at Manchester Metropolitan University, where she taught Sport and Exercise Science, concentrating on motor coordination in sports skills development. Currently, she is involved in research on frame running for individuals with neurological impairments, emphasizing access to sports and physical activity. She has supervised numerous PhD projects in adapted physical activity and is dedicated to breaking down barriers in sport participation for individuals with disabilities.
