Dr. Martino Mona

Biography

Martino Mona studied philosophy and art history at the universities of Fribourg, Paris, Oxford, and Bern (lic. phil. 2000). He pursued legal studies at the University of Bern and the University of Basel (Dr. iur. 2006) and earned an LL.M. from Harvard Law School in 2008. Mona has held various academic positions, including assistant professor of criminal law and legal philosophy at the University of Bern and the University of Basel from 2001 to 2007, where he received the Credit Suisse Award for Teaching. He has been a professor of criminal law and legal philosophy at the University of Bern since 2012. Mona's research areas include the foundations of criminal law, particularly consent and criminal theories, legal philosophy focusing on procedural justice theories, and medical criminal law. He has authored and edited numerous publications on topics related to criminal law, legal theory, and philosophical underpinnings of law, contributing substantially to both academic literature and legal practice.
